Kate Cooke

I'm based on the south coast of the UK, in Hampshire, where I work as a freelance textile designer and illustrator.

When I left art college I worked in the fashion industry first for a textile merchant and then a fashion supplier before settling into freelance work. In 2012, along with a friend, I set up a design company called Port and Lemon, this now runs independently so I am able to concentrate solely on new designs and working with different clients.

Over the years I've developed a style which is very much based around my original paintings, all my designs start life as either a painting in gouache or acrylic. My work often has a hand printed look, referencing my love of methods such as block and screen printing.

Never knowingly scared of color, this is another element I really enjoy, my designs tend towards using bright vibrant colors for maximum impact and I love bold strong shapes and hues.

I like to think of myself as well traveled and always open to the influence of the amazing places and experiences I come across. I love to study nature and especially have an interest in British birds and wildlife. This is reflected in my work and the different subject matter I'm drawn too
