Little Piece of My Heart - The Art of Kathryn Hymers http://www.facebook.com/khymersart/

Kathryn Hymers was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1955. She moved several times during her childhood, and in her teens, her family relocated permanently to Wabush (Labrador West), Newfoundland and Labrador. She spent most of her life there, where she raised a family of her own. When her children grew to adulthood and moved on to explore their own lives, she did the same. She left Labrador West in 2014, and returned to her home city of Halifax to pursue her life-long dream of becoming a professional artist.

For much of her life, Kathryn has been a hobbyist in the arts, and has done much of her work with both acrylic and water colour; however, in the past several years, she has ventured into oil painting. The flexibility of oil has enabled her to produce vivid images with great detail —photographs do not do justice to her fine work.

Her intent as an artist is to share the beauty of her world with her viewers. “Sometimes the world can be pretty dismal, and we should all have a sanctuary where we can sit and reflect on the things that make us happy in life,” she explained. “Jean Lake was often that place for me, and when I left Labrador, I didn’t have it any more. I missed the Northern Lights and I missed my favourite lake, so I decided to start painting my happy places instead.” Although some of her landscapes are imagined, they are strongly influenced by places she has been, and she invites her audience to hold those places close to their own hearts.

“When you need somewhere that’s still and at peace, imagine you’re there. That’s what I do. Each of these paintings is a little piece of my heart, and I’m opening my heart to you.”
