Clarence O. Mundy was born of English parents in Valparaiso, Chile, on February 25, 1920. In 1940, Mundy discovered his and passion for painting. He received guidance and instruction under an accomplished and award winning painter Pedro Reszka Moreau. He later enrolled in the National Art School of Chile, where he studied under Carlos Pedraza, instructor and member of the nationally recognized group, “ The 40 Generation”. Also listed as one of Clarence’s instructors was world renowned painter Jorge Caballero. In in 1954, he moved to the United States where he was well received as a “ A cartoonist (that would) alternate - between illustrations, humorous drawings and paintings in the traditional manner.“ Upon arrival he was featured as a “one-man” exhibition at the Pan American Union Building in Washington D.C. For over forty years, C.O. Mundy resided in Washington D.C. on the fourth floor, in a modest single bedroom apartment. It was behind those closed doors where the C.O. Mundy Collection was built. Clarence Oliver Mundy passed away in early 2013.
